Ishtar Gate (restored), Babylon, Iraq, ca. 575 BCE.
Babylon under King Nebuchadnezzar II was one of the greatest cities of the ancient world. Glazed bricks depicting Marduk’s dragon and Adad’s bull decorate the monumental arcuated Ishtar Gate.
